Certification Body of personnel for welding of rails on railways

By its decision, the Transport Authority of the Slovak Republic entrusted ŽSR Bratislava, the Railway Research and Development Institute (VVÚŽ) Žilina to perform the testing organization in the scope of supervision during the training and testing of welders in the scope according to § 17, par. 3 of the Act of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic No. 513/ 2009 Coll. on railways, i.e. rail welding.

ŽSR – Railway Research and Development Institute Žilina has developed and implemented a system for training and verification of qualification of personnel in the field of rail welding. The determining document is the ŽSR VVÚŽ Quality Manual of Certification Body of personnel for non-destructive testing and welding of rails on railways. The guidelines describing the verification of welders’ qualifications within the scope of the following standards have been incorporated into the documentation:

• TNŽ 05 0715 „Welding. Rules for testing of welders welding steel material of railway superstructure “
• TNŽ 05 0716 „Welding. Rules for testing the rail welders by flash butt welding “
• TNŽ 05 0717 „Welding. Rules for the testing of rail welders by thermite welding “
• STN EN 14 730-2 „Railway applications. Track. Aluminothermic welding of rails – Part 2: Qualification of aluminothermic welders, approval of contractors and acceptance of welds “

Qualification verification is carried out in a training facility – a welding school with a valid authorization from the Transport Authority of the Slovak Republic.
