Organizational structure

Directorate general of ŽSR is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR and also serves as the top management body of ŽSR.

The General Directorate of ŽSR is divided into departments.

Regional directorates (hereinafter referred to as “RD”) are Internal organizational units of ŽSR that are not registered in the Business Register.

The scope of RD’s activities within a defined territorial area includes:

• manage, organize, and coordinate transportation operations and establish the organizational framework necessary to fulfill orders from railway infrastructure users,
• manage entrusted railway track and structure facilities and create conditions for their safe and reliable operation, ensure the supply of gas and heat to ŽSR organizational units and external customers,
• manage entrusted signaling and safety equipment and create conditions for their safe and reliable operation,
• manage entrusted energy and electrical engineering equipment and create conditions for their safe and reliable operation; ensure the distribution of electrical energy from ŽSR distribution facilities to points of consumption and ensure supplier-consumer relationships in the area of heat,
• perform servicing and maintenance activities on railway tracks and structures, signaling, radio communication, computing (technological), safety, and sorting equipment, fixed electric traction equipment, high-voltage, and other special electrical equipment,
• manage, organize, and coordinate the need for transport vehicles and mechanization, and create the organizational conditions for fulfilling orders from internal users within the ŽSR network and external entities,
• be accountable for ensuring the operational readiness of the railway infrastructure.

Logistics and Procurement Centre is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Klemensova 8, 813 61 Bratislava.

The activities of Logistics and Procurement Centre include:

• handling the procurement and logistics of goods,
• handling the procurement of services and construction work for the needs of Internal organizational units of ŽSR, ensuring that these are delivered in the required quality, quantity, and time, and to the designated location.

Bridge Section is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is not registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Pri plynárni č. 1, 041 50 Košice

The activities of Bridge Section include:

• perform basic legal obligations relating to the administration, construction, reconstruction, modification, repair, and maintenance of railways, including environmental structures, with a primary focus on technical railway infrastructure facilities - railway substructure structures, namely bridges, bridge-like structures, temporary bridges, and special structures in accordance with the provisions of the Railways Act, while complying with general and specific requirements for health, safety, reliability, environmental protection, and civil protection, so as to minimize all health and safety risks,
• be accountable for ensuring the operational readiness of the railway infrastructure within its jurisdiction.

Railway Geodesy Centre is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is not registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Bazová 2, 821 08 Bratislava

The activities of Railway Geodesy Centre include:

• perform geodetic and cartographic work for ŽSR,
• maintain a railway real estate registry,
• prepare design documentation for transport and engineering structures and carry out design activities related to such structures in accordance with the authorization certificate issued by the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers pursuant to Act No. 138/1992 Coll. on Authorized Architects and Authorized Civil Engineers, as amended,
• to perform the duties of chief geodesist.

ŽSR Asset Management Bratislava is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Holekova 6, 811 04 Bratislava.

The activities of ŽSR Asset Management Bratislava include:

• manage and maintain property,
• manage the real estate assets of ŽSR,
• manage buildings, land, and engineering networks, and create the conditions for their safe and reliable operation,
• to manage surplus and partially surplus assets of ŽSR in all forms in accordance with applicable law,
• perform additional legal settlement of real estate property rights,
• manage the land, buildings, apartments, apartment buildings, and utility networks entrusted to it,
• to carry out legal and business activities related to asset management,
• sell surplus and unnecessary assets on behalf of ŽSR.

Purpose Centres are Internal organizational units of ŽSR, managed by purpose centres managers.

Purpose Centres of ŽSR are:

• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Railway Museum of the Slovak Republic,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Railway Technical Protection Centre Bratislava,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Crisis Management and Protection Department,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Regional Human Resources Offices Košice, Trnava, Zvolen, Žilina,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Labour rationalisation and standardisation Centre,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Preparation and Inplementation Centres Košice, Žilina, Bratislava,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Accounting Centres Košice, Žilina, Zvolen, Bratislava,
• Purpose centre of ŽSR - Inspection Centres Košice, Zvolen, Žilina, Bratislava.

Central Intitute for Education and Psychology is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Šancová 102/A, 831 04 Bratislava.

The activities of Central Intitute for Education and Psychology include:

• provide training for employees of railway operators and rail carriers as needed and in accordance with the requirements of the STN EN ISO 9001 standard; prepare them for their professions; retrain and improve their skills; verify and enhance their work competence, assess mental fitness for performing work in specific professions and job activities, perform expert, consulting, and assessment activities, and provide psychological counseling, analyze, within the framework of accident and injury prevention, the influence of the human factor on the occurrence of accidents and work-related injuries, or the influence of other factors,
• ensure the operation of lodging and dining facilities.

Railway Reserch and Development Centre Žilina is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Hviezdoslavova 31, 010 02 Žilina

The activities of ŽSR Asset Management Bratislava include:

• conduct measurements, monitoring, and diagnostics of the railway track and its infrastructure,
• serve as the railway authority in the areas of defect detection and metrology, safety risk assessment,
• perform expert activities related to railway infrastructure management, railway vehicles, and railway transport operations,
• perform activities in the field of testing, inspections, and certification of the railway system, its subsystems, and their components,
• collaborate and contribute to the development of ŽSR’s strategy and the scientific, technical, and innovative development of the railways,
• serve as the lead institution and coordinator of scientific, technical, and innovation programs,
• address applied research and development tasks in accordance with the railway development strategy,
• perform specialized activities focused on the technical development of railways (including for external organizations).

Railway Power Engineering is an Internal organizational unit of ŽSR that is not registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Klemensova 8, 813 61 Bratislava

The activities of Railway Power Engineering include:

• distribute electricity,
• trade in electricity and gas within ŽSR,
• ensure the commercial use of the railway energy infrastructure while taking into account its connections to the Slovak Republic’s power grid, in accordance with Slovak and EU energy legislation.

Railway Telecommunicatios Bratislava are anInternal organizational unit of ŽSR that is registered in the Business Register.

Headquarters: Kováčska 3, 832 06 Bratislava

The activities of Railway Telecommunicatios Bratislava include:

• to effectively operate all of ŽSR’s information technology systems and electronic communications networks, manage and modernize them with the aim of maximizing the return on investment and ensuring the optimal utilization of ŽSR’s infrastructure capacity,
• provide all information and telecommunications services necessary to ensure the operation of ŽSR, the operation of ŽSR’s transport infrastructure, and the safety of rail transport, in accordance with applicable Slovak legislation,
• provide information and telecommunications services to external parties,
• to oversee the management of information and cybersecurity at ŽSR.
